International
migration has substantial potential for reducing poverty around
the World, but whereas economists have been quite successful in
convincing the World about the advantages of the free flow of
goods, they have not managed to convince people about the
benefits of migration.
The topic is very much dominated by politics and emotions,
leaving little room for rational arguments.
Curiously, it is the
recipient countries, who would typically benefit from
immigration, that are most opposed to migration, whereas sending
countries, who lose important human capital, have few
objections.
