The 7th Economics Research Workshop (ERW) organized by the Institute for Advanced Studies Development, the Bolivian Private University, the Bolivian Economist Society and the Bolivian Academic of Economics Science, was on Wednesday, October 5th in the postgrad auditorium of the UPB.
In this opportunity, Gustavo Canavire Bacarreza, Ph.D. of the EAFIT-Colombia, presented the working paper ““Moving Citizens and Deterring Criminals Innovation in Public Transport Facilities”. This paper shows how the insertion of the Metro Cable in the Medellin City, reduced the criminals indices since 2000 to 2014.
Also, the study indicates that the Public Transport and Urban Infrastructure have influence in the criminality indices, together with other factors as the economy and the police role. This research can be applied to other cities of Latin America as La Paz, Rio de Janeiro or Mexico D.F. for having similar Mellins’s public transport systems.
