The Institute for Advanced Development Studies (INESAD), the Society of Bolivian Economists (SEBOL), the Military Engineering School (EMI),
and the Bolivian Academy of Economic Sciences (ABCE) are jointly organizing the Fourth Bolivian Conference on Development
Economics, to be hosted by EMI in La Paz, Bolivia, on
November 6 and 7, 2012.
The conference aims at bringing together local and
international scholars for the exchange of ideas and
discussion of recent results within theoretical and
applied development economics research. We particularly
encourage female researchers and young Bolivian
researchers to submit papers on all topics within the
field of development economics. The Conference features

Rodrigo R. Soares (PUC-Rio) and Eduardo Lora (IDB).
Keynote
speakers
Rodrigo R. Soares
(Ph.D. University of Chicago) is currently Associate
Professor and Graduate Director at the Department of
Economics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio
de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He is also a Research Fellow at
IZA (Institute for the Study of Labor, Germany), Member
of the Executive Committee of LACEA (Latin American and
Caribbean Economic Association), and Research Affiliate
at J-PAL Latin America (A.L. Jameel Poverty Action Lab,
Latin America Office). He has previously worked as
Adjunct Associate Professor at Harvard University and
Assistant Professor at University of Maryland. His CV, a

Eduardo Lora
(M.Sc. London School of Economics) is currently Principal Advisor at IDB’s Research Department, where he coordinates the annual report on Economic and Social Progress in Latin America. He has previously worked as Executive Director of Fedesarrollo, the main economic research center in Colombia, as member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Bogotá, and as editor of Coyuntura Económica. Format of presentations and
discussion
The conference will largely consist of parallel sessions, plenary
sessions, and 2 keynote lectures.
All participants may be requested to
serve as discussants in the parallel
sessions.
Paper submission
Papers must be submitted by email (as a Word or a PDF
file) to the conference e-mail
account,
bcde2012@inesad.edu.bo. The
deadline for paper submission is
Friday August 17, 2012.
All submitted papers will be
reviewed prior to acceptance for
presentation. The review process
will finish by Friday August 31,
2012, and the organizers will notify
applicants of the outcome by email.

posted at the Conference's web site.
Travel and accommodation
All participants must cover their own travel and
accommodation costs, but the
organizers have made arrangements
for preferential rates at hotels
Plaza, Europa and Camino Real in La
Paz.
A travel stipend of 700
USD will be offered to some of the
successful applicants residing
outside Bolivia, based on the
quality of their submissions.
Applicants interested in being
considered for one of these
stipends, should indicate that at
the moment of submitting their
papers.
