International migration carries important possibilities for reducing poverty at a world level. However, despite the fact that economists have been fairly successful in convincing the general public about advantages of free movement of goods, they have not yet managed to convince them about the potential benefits of migration. This domain is broadly governed by politics and feelings, which leaves little room for rational argument.
Strangely, the receiving countries, who normally benefit from migration, are the ones who are most opposed to it, whilst the sending countries, who lose important numbers of human capital, are the ones who least object.
