Description of the COSP (COST – EFFECTIVENESS) Analysis Tool
This tool is designed to analyze the economic sustainability of agricultural production under different cost and climate shock scenarios. Through the input of key data on the farm, production and costs, it allows to evaluate the impact of price variations and climatic conditions on the producer’s profitability.
The tool is structured in two main steps:
Data entry: Farm profile, production, cost and profit data are entered.
Scenario and price analysis: Different cost scenarios, climate impacts and price fluctuations are evaluated to forecast the effects on production and profitability.
Objectives of the Tool
- Evaluate the profitability of agricultural production under different economic and climatic conditions.
- Calculate costs and benefits considering direct and indirect costs, sales prices and profit margins.
- Simulate impacts of climatic phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña, with different levels of severity.
- Assist in decision making to optimize production and minimize financial risks.
- Provide an analytical framework to negotiate prices and adjust production strategies in the face of adverse scenarios.
